    Position: Page Designer – Copy Editor

    Union Classificaiton:  Page Designer

    Reporting to:  Managing Editor, Special Sections

     


     

    Star Metroland Media is looking for a Page Designer to join our dynamic content team.

     

    The successful candidate’s experience should reflect a track record of successful delivery of deadline-driven projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for a variety of both local and national special features including gift guides, and custom publication pages in both StarMetro and the Toronto Star.

     

    What you will do:

    • Layout of special feature pages for all English-language Metro markets on tight deadlines
    • Layout of custom publishing pages for all English-language Metro markets and the Toronto Star on tight deadlines
    • Proof read and edit all pages for which the candidate is responsible
    • Develop creative executions for in-paper advertising/custom publications
    • Quality assurance of design and layout
    • Write compelling heads, decks and display copy
    • Take on a variety of tasks, as assigned

     

    Who you are:

    • Post secondary education in journalism, graphic design or related field
    • Minimum 3 years creative agency or newspaper/magazine experience
    • Strong creative layout skills
    • Software proficiency including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Newsgate
    • Strong attention to detail (copy, grammar, layout, images, colour, etc)
    • Display writing skills
    • Experience in copy editing and proofing
    • Knowledge of CP style
    • Ability to work to tight deadlines
    • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced multi-project environment
    • Quick problem-solver
